WE FINALLY GET TO ANNOUNCE!
A little ambitious for a newbie I know (I’ve always been a bit of a dreamer). I’m excited to announce that my guitarist & co-writer, Adrian and I have been invited by our friend and producer, Rob Crowell to record our sophomore album at Adam Landry’s Play Ground Sound Studio located in the middle of Nashville, Tennessee (AKA Music City U.S.A)!
Lately Rob has been recording and touring with Providence, Rhode Island, based Deer Tick and side project/super group Diamond Rugs. However, he’s been living in Nashville with his friend and fellow producer Adam Landry. Adam has worked with K.D. Lang, Ray Lamontange and recently recorded albums for both Deer Tick and Diamond Rugs. It’s obvious to tell you my jaw dropped to the floor when he so casually presented me with the idea.
This is where you come in :)
Welcome to our campaign. Adrian and I are asking fans and supporters to help us raise the funds needed to travel, record, mix, master, and press our newest album. As Adrian and I have never travelled by plane before, maybe we’ll kick in an extra couple bucks to sedate us for the flight? Just thinking out loud here… The point is, we want to have the opportunity to share this with as many people as we can. For this to happen, we need you.
That being said, WE AREN’T ASKING FOR HANDOUTS. We are hard workers and want to be able to offer you something in return for your help. No matter the amount of support, whether it be a pre-order of the album, a private performance, or A HUG (I love hugs), it’s definitely appreciated. By purchasing one of these many perks, you are helping us create the best quality album we possibly can. For that matter, you will play the role of record label. So let’s chat business, shall we?
We’re looking to raise at least $7500 through reward purchases, but how about a little education first?
When recording contracts were still the only way, the artist would be contracted by the record label to provide the material, and tour it. The label would be in charge of providing guidance, and lend the funds necessary to produce and market albums, videos, tours. The artist would then work on repaying the label through sales (albums, tickets, limbs, THEIR SOUL). This is how a lot of artists, especially the new and vulnerable ones (like us) get themselves involved in the unfavorable “Deals” we always hear about. As a matter of fact, there are a few campaigns like this one aimed at raising funds for artists to BUY THEIR OWN SONGS back from the record label. Fortunately, we have not yet allowed anyone to get their hands on our babies.
We’re proud of our music and we want to own it. We want you to own it too.
This is a direct and mutually beneficial relationship between our band and you, the fan.
The impact: Sticking it to the man!
Here is what I propose to you, my wonderful supporter:
I promise to keep my end of the deal. We will honor any and every pledge that we receive, with a smile.
I promise to continue making music to the highest quality I can, with every skill I acquire along the way.
I promise not to waste this album. We will promote and tour this album as much as possible, to whoever or wherever will have us. Even if it kills me… Well, that sounds a bit extreme.
I promise to constantly work on strengthening our live performance. To evolve. To give it every last bit of energy I have left.
What are some of the costs that will go into making this record you ask?
The Travel - $1500 (2 Economy Flights)
The Recording - $6000 ($1000/song including producer’s fees)
The Mixing/Mastering - $1600
The Pressing - $2500+ (Approximate cost of Vinyl & jackets, and short run of CD’s)
Goal for this campaign: $7500
Now you may think, “Hey Jess, that’s a bigger total than what your campaign is reaching for?!” and you’re right, friend. I will also be using my personal savings to make this project happen. I’ve been trying to teach as many students as my voice can handle, and take as many gigs as I can juggle to raise money. We don’t need fancy hotels, we’ll tent in the backyard if that’s what it takes! It’s warm in Nashville in November, right? Sorry Rob.
Speaking of gigs:
We are having a Send Off to Nashville celebration show October 18th at the Seahorse Tavern in Halifax with Toronto’s the Archives and Dartmouth’s the Scoop Outs. Not only is the show a celebration, but an appreciation of our fans and supporters, which is why we’re offering a FREE ticket with each reward purchase from now until October 17th at 5PM ADT, or until advanced quantities run out.
For details on the show visit:
Please support us with our project by sharing this campaign and/or purchasing a reward! Or a few :)
If you can’t contribute financially that’s totally ok, but consider sharing the campaign anyway. Every little bit counts!
ONE MORE THING:
In anticipation of such great news, we’ll be releasing our first ever music video and brand new single called “Ten Paces” Tuesday October 15th! All reward purchasers will recieve and exclusive download of the new single.
